Ryrie Kayak, Gairloch

Alec, Victoria, Ben and Adam came kayaking on a still and blue sky day. Recently I’ve been coming across quite a few of these big Barrel Jellyfish, like all jellyfish they’re pretty impressive but these are huge! You can see a moon jellyfish over to the right to see the size difference.

Davis Kayak, Gairloch

Greg, Laura, Logan and local lass Esther came for a splash in kayaks this morning. It was nice to have them out on the water again, last time we’d been out in canoes on an equally sunny day.

Elder Kayak, Gairloch

Scott, Morven and Amy came kayaking from Gairloch harbour. Despite one of them being a little nervous of water they all had a great time on the boats and spotting the wildlife.

Maclean Kayak, Gairloch

Duncan was bought a Ewe Canoe Voucher for his birthday and we finally got organised to get out on the water. He was using his own kayak and wanted to learn some paddling techniques.

Priest Mohan Kayak, Shieldaig

Michael had been out with me in the past, this time he brought Jayne along to join in on the fun. He’s already booked again for August! It’s not far up here from his B&B down in Lochcarron, so easy to nip up for a relaxing paddle.

Alexander Canoe, Shieldaig

Catherine and John joined me in canoes on a sunny morning. We had a good paddle around the coastline, spotting plenty of wildlife including this big barrel jellyfish – something we don’t see too often.

Cairns & Co Kayak, Gairloch

Shiel, Brooke, Freda and Greg chose a couple of sea kayaks and a couple of sit on tops to get out on the water on. We had a good paddle around the craggy coastline to a beach only accessible by boat.

Best Hankins

Dave and Sue had chosen to leave their kayaks back home on the south coast when they came up to drive around the NC500, far easier to book a session on the water with me. At the end of our session we enjoyed just a few seals coming to see us – only about 25 seals.

Mc Keown Kayak, Gairloch

Paul and Ashley planned a morning paddling with me on their NC500 holiday. We had a good time going around the coastline spotting wildlife under the water. Spiny and common starfish, moon and lion’s mane jellyfish, urchins and anemones.

Chalmers Kayak, Gairloch

Sue was in the area with her mountaineering club but wanted to get out on the water too. She has her own boat but coming out with me meant she got to try a different boat, learn some skills from me and of course benefit from my local knowledge about the best places to go. We spent plenty of time gazing through the crystal clear water at the amazing habitat below.

Alison, Rachel & Haley Kayak, Gairloch

These three from my mountain rescue team decided to come out kayaking with me for a change from being on the hill with me. We had a good time in the sunshine looking at the hills from the calm water rather than being out in them.

Mackenzie Clark Kayaking, Gairloch

I’ve been bumping into Tanya, David, Caz and Robbie for years when they’re up here on their holidays but we’d never managed to get out in boats till now. They made up for it this holiday by paddling twice with me, asking to book another trip as soon as they’d got off the water the first time.

Sea Eagles and Warships

Twice a year we have the warships around us as the Joint Warrior exercises happen, today we had a few big boats go past us as we paddled around the coast. We also had plenty of bird life pass by including a huge sea eagle who was sat watching us before soaring up into the sky.

Whyte Paddle, Gairloch

Richard, Vivienne, Susannah, Caroline and Andrew met me for an afternoon of kayaking and canoeing in the sunshine. We used a combination of sit on top kayaks, young person sized kayaks and a canoe to suit everyone. Everyone picked up the skills quickly, enabling us to have a good session playing games and exploring the area.

Rhodes Kayak, Laide

Allison and Will joined me for another kayak session. They keep coming back for more – I’m surprised they’ve not got bored of my jokes yet! It’s always good to see up here enjoying the water.
