Courtney kayak, Poolewe

Shoni, Michelle, Stephen, Jared, Chloe and Lee all met me for an evening kayaking. The haar from earlier cleared away giving us a lovely sunny evening. After a few bits of instruction and coaching everyone got the hang of their boats and nerves settled.

Smith kayak, Poolewe

Jemima, Paul, Kirsten, Ailsa and Rory joined me for another session, their fourth so far. We went for a very wet session, lot’s of fun and falling in. Challenges ranged from sitting on the very back of the boat to standing one legged on the very front! It started sunny with blue skies but soon a haar rolled in, giving us a very atmospheric experience.

Gillian, Rachel and Emma spent the morning kayaking with me. Rachel and Emma choosing to kayak on a double sit on top and Gillian going for the faster sea kayak.

Sarah and Anna joined me for a morning exploring the coastline around Mellon Charles. It didn’t take long for them to remember their scouting kayaking skills. The craggy coastline is fantastic for exploring, with lots of nooks and crannies.

Myatt kayak, Big Sands

David and Frances have been out with me a number of times in the past, they’ve now got new boats and wanted to learn more about safe paddling – what kit is useful to have, how to rescue each other and rescuing themselves from the water. The sun came out and it was a lovely afternoon.

Leslie kayak, Gairloch

Debbie, Barry & Sophie kayak, Mellon Charles

Debbie, Barry and Sophie met me on a grey morning for a paddle on Loch Ewe. The light drizzle soon stopped and it started to brighten slightly. On our paddle we had some seals pass by and then an otter pottering about as we had our brew. Over the course of the session we must have seen at least a hundred starfish – they were everywhere!

Aitken Taylor kayak, Poolewe

Maggie, Maisie, Emma, Ben, Euan and Gary all met me for a fun afternoon learning kayaking skills, having fun, seeing the scenery and spotting wildlife. Oh, and of course the important hot chocolate on a remote beach!

Fleming paddle, Gairloch

Trudy, Emma and Abi joined me for the afternoon. The heavy rain didn’t arrive when forecast so we had a lovely calm and dry session exploring the rugged coastline.

Crawford kayak, Poolewe

Amanda, Ed, Archie and Marsaili joined me for their fifth session with me. Always nice seeing them and getting out on the water to have some fun. Marsaili requested we do some wet games – so since I always like to please I tried my best to get them in the water as much as possible!

Platt kayak, Poolewe

Freddie and John moved to the area earlier this year and have been keen to get out on the water. We’d planned a session a while ago but the wind got in the way a wee bit. They had such a good time they’re now keen to get their own boats and book another session to learn more skills.

Robyn, Abbie, Stuart kayak, Poolewe

Robyn, Abbie and Stuart joined me for a sunny afternoon. Exploring the coastline around Inverewe is always enjoyable, seeing a side of the garden that most don’t get to. As we stopped for a brew at Camas Glas a seal swam about below us keeping a watchful eye on what we were up to.

Erin & Jordan canoe, Poolewe

Erin and Jordan met me for a morning canoeing. It started out very calm and we were able to paddle around Inverewe Garden easily, spotting seals and birds as we paddled around. The wind increased and gave us a very easy paddle back to the road – always nice to have the wind help us along!
